The Ultimate Pacific Marine Circle Route Road Trip
Have you done the Pacific Marine Circle Route on Vancouver Island?
Now is the time! It’s summer and it’s hot…
The Circle Route is one of the coolest ways to take in the tranquil, rugged beauty of southern Vancouver Island. Let us guide you to the best nature, activity and dining stops along the way with this Ultimate 1-2 Day Road Trip! The day trip base cost runs $75-$100/person or $175-$250/person with a one night accommodation in the Lake Cowichan, Port Renfrew, or Sooke area.
Our favourite route begins with the Cowichan Valley side with an early morning breakfast at Pioneer House at Whippletree Junction. Followed by a visit to Next to Nature Trading Co. next door to Pioneer House for a sample (or more) of their world famous delectable Beaver House Fudge.
They carry the coolest local crafts, art, clothing and souvenirs.
From Whippletree Junction you will be minutes away from the quaint seaside town of Cowichan Bay with the neatest shops, activities, and eateries. Being out on the water is a great way to see “The Bay” by kayak, paddle board, or pedal boat with Coastal Bliss Adventures.
They also offer a guided tour of the Pacific Marine Circle Route called “Big Trees & Living Seas”. After an hour or two out on the water working up an appetite, grab lunch at one of the many fabulous and local Cowichan Bay or Valley restaurants or a cone from none other than Original Udder Guys. Also consider putting together a lunch from local farms to travel with you along the Lake Cowichan to Port Renfrew drive for a lakeside picnic.
Nothing quite completes the Port Renfew-Sooke-Victoria journey without a mystical 2 km hike down to Mystic Beach. Then coffee and lovingly house-made cheesecake or other sweet or savoury treats at the hippest cafe in Shirley – Shirley Delicious – will fulfill any peckish palate. You’ll thank us for this suggestion and please make sure you time your journey to arrive there before 5:00 pm. It is worth the early morning road trip start, no question!
To finish up the route we highly recommend a cleansing evening dip at Sooke Potholes before or after dining in a local restaurant such as Mai Mai’s Bistro, The Lazy Gecko, or Wild Mountain.
